Assorted Dark Scraps
String Along 9” Papers (you’ll need 64 total)
Basting or Appliqué Glue Stick
Neutral Thread (e.g., Aurifil Dove 2600)
Basic quilting tools: ruler, rotary cutter, mat, iron, wool pressing mat, pencil
Block Construction
You will make a total of 64 blocks, divided as follows:
Each block begins with a marked diagonal line on the foundation paper — this helps position your center strips. From there, you simply glue and sew the strips in layers, working outward from the center, pressing as you go. Once the paper is covered, trim to a clean 9” square.
💡 Tip: When working with half-and-half blocks, always sew the light strip first so that the seam tucks under the darker fabric for a cleaner look.
Assembling the Quilt
Once your blocks are complete, the fun begins — arranging them to create the stars! The layout is what gives this quilt its dynamic energy. Group four blocks to form each star, then sew the larger blocks together to create the final layout.
Play with the direction of the diagonal lines as you lay the blocks out. Small shifts can completely change the visual movement of your quilt!
Final Size
This size makes a cozy throw or wall-hanging quilt, but you can easily adjust it by making more or fewer blocks.
