Block Breakdown
Half Square Triangles (HSTs):
Make 40 HSTs measuring 6″ finished (6.5″ with seam allowances). You can use your preferred method — traditional two-at-a-time, four-at-a-time, or using a specialty cutting tool like the AccuQuilt GO.
Triangle in a Square Blocks:
Make 10 blocks that finish at 6″. These can be easily pieced using Tri-Recs Rulers or die-cut with the AccuQuilt GO system if you have one. These striking blocks add visual direction and interest to the quilt layout.
Print Squares:
Cut 49 squares from your feature print, each measuring 6.5″ x 6.5″. These squares add contrast and help balance the pieced blocks.
Assembly Instructions
Layout Your Quilt Top:
Refer to the quilt photo (insert image or PDF link here). Lay out your blocks in a 9 x 11 grid. Balance your triangle blocks evenly throughout the quilt top.
Sew Blocks Together:
Join the blocks row by row, pressing seams as desired (open or to one side). Once all rows are complete, sew them together to finish your quilt top.
Fabric Requirements
I recommend starting with 2.5 yards each of three main fabrics. Here’s an approximate breakdown based on this quilt’s composition:
-
2 yards of a light background fabric – for the HSTs and background of triangle-in-a-square blocks
-
2 yards of blue or contrasting color – for the triangle shapes and quilt binding
-
2.25 yards of a printed fabric – for the 49 squares and accents
Note: Your total yardage may vary depending on the cutting methods and whether you’re using scraps or pre-cuts.
