-
Decide the width you’d like.
-
Chain an odd number to reach that width.
-
Then chain 3 more for the turning chain (this counts as your first stitch).
-
Dc (UK tr) into the 4th chain from the hook.
-
Continue working dc across the row — you’ll end up with an even number of stitches.
-
To continue:
-
Ch 3 (counts as a stitch), turn, skip the first stitch, dc into each stitch across.
-
Repeat from * to * for as many rows as needed — keeping the row count even.
This keeps the pattern consistent and ensures that the edging instructions below will fit perfectly.
My Pattern:
Foundation Chain:
Ch 114 (111 base chains + 3 turning chain)
Row 1:
Dc into 4th ch from hook, then dc across. (112 stitches total)
Rows 2–86:
Ch 3 (counts as stitch), turn, skip first stitch, dc into each stitch across. (112 stitches per row)
Do not fasten off. Proceed directly to the edging.
Edging:
This border uses 3-chain loops with sc (UK dc) for a decorative yet simple finish.
-
Start with ch 4, turn your work.
-
With the right side of the blanket facing you, begin working along the top edge.
-
(Ch 3, skip 1 stitch, sc in the next stitch) — repeat this sequence across.
-
At each corner, work two ch-3 loops instead of one.
-
Use a stitch marker to mark the top 2 loops of your first stitch—you’ll join your edging here at the end.
This light edging adds just a touch of detail and completes your blanket beautifully.
