  • Quilting ruler

  • Sewing machine

  • Thread to match or contrast

  • Iron and ironing board

  • Pins or clips

Cutting Instructions

You will make 20 alternate blocks: 10 of Block A and 10 of Block B.

From Each Solid Fabric:

  • E pieces – Cut 2 strips 2½” wide, then subcut into 10 pieces 4½” long.

  • D pieces – Cut 5 strips 2½” wide, then subcut into 30 pieces 6½” long.

  • F pieces – Cut 1 strip 2½” wide, then subcut into 10 pieces 2½” square.

From Floral Fabric:

  • Cut 3 strips 4½” wide, then subcut into 20 squares 4½” x 4½”.

Borders:

  • Cut 4 strips 9″ wide.

  • From these, cut 18 border triangles and 4 corner triangles.

Block Construction

Block A

  1. Center Unit:
Place one floral square (4½” x 4½”) in the bottom left position.

  2. Side Strips:
Sew one E strip (4½”) to the right of the floral square.
Attach one D strip (6½”) vertically to the top of the floral square.

  3. Corner Pieces:
Use F squares and additional D strips to frame the floral piece as shown in the Block A diagram.
Press seams toward the darker fabric.

Block B

  1. Center Unit:
Place a solid square (cut from floral or coordinating solid) in the center.

  2. Side Strips:
Attach one D strip to each vertical side and one C piece horizontally (cut from the provided solid fabric measurements).

  3. Complete Frame:
Follow the Block B diagram to sew in the surrounding pieces, ensuring proper alignment for the twisting lattice effect.

Quilt Top Assembly

  1. Layout:
Arrange blocks in alternating sequence following the provided quilt layout diagram:

    • Position Block A and Block B diagonally so that the twist effect aligns.

    • The floral blocks should appear framed and connected by the twist lattice.

  2. Join Blocks:
Sew blocks together in rows. Press seam allowances toward the D strip side for easier nesting.

  3. Add Borders:
Attach the border triangles to complete the edges. Sew the corner triangles to each quilt corner.

Finishing Your Quilt

  1. Layering:
Layer quilt top, batting, and backing. Baste using pins or spray.

  2. Quilting:
Quilt along the seams or use free-motion quilting to accentuate the twist design. Floral motifs look especially beautiful in the floral squares.

  3. Binding:
Attach binding using your preferred method.

Tips for Best Results

  • Press after every seam for crisp, accurate blocks.

  • Use a consistent ¼” seam allowance.

  • Chain piece where possible to speed up sewing.
