Row 1 (Right Side): With J hook and Black, ch 43. Dc in 4th ch from hook and across. (41 dc)

Fasten off and weave in ends.
Center Panel (Make 1)

Row 1: With J hook and Black, ch 43, v-st in 5th ch from hook, skip 2 ch, v-st, repeat to last 2 chs, skip 1, dc in last. (13 v-sts)

Fasten off and weave in ends.
Assembly
With right sides facing up, sew the panels together aligning the v-stitches properly. Make sure the v-sts are oriented upright to ensure the correct visual effect.
Border
Using I hook and Black yarn:

Rnd 1: Join yarn in any stitch, ch 3, dc evenly around with (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in corners. Join with sl st.

Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc around, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in corners. Join.

Rnd 3: Ch 5 (dc, ch 2), dc in same st. Skip 2, v-st in next around, work (v-st, ch 2, v-st) in corners.

Rnd 4: Sl st into ch-2 space, ch 7, sl st in 3rd ch, ch 1, dc in same sp. Continue picot v-st in each v-st, and (picot v-st, ch 2, picot v-st) in corners. Join and finish off.
Leaves (Make 10)
With Green and I hook:

Rnd 1: Ch 30, dc in 4th ch and next 20 chs, sc in next 5, (sc, ch 2, sc) in last ch. Work along back loops: sc 5, dc 22. Work 3 sc around last dc and skipped ch-3.

Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc 25, hdc 1, sc 2, (2 sc, ch 3, sl st in 1st ch, 2 sc) in ch-2 sp, sc 2, hdc 1, dc 25. Sl st to next st, finish off.
Stems (Make 10)
With Green and J hook:
Ch 40, finish off and weave in ends.
Bells (Make 30)
With White and F hook:

Rnd 1: Ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Do not join.

Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st (12 sc)

Rnd 3–5: Sc around.

Rnd 6: Sl st, ch 4, sl st in 4th ch, skip 1 st, repeat for 6 points.
Use long end to pull center top of bell together and leave 1″ tail to hang.
Final Assembly

Use black crochet cotton and a yarn needle to sew stems and leaves to the afghan’s center and side panels.
