Minion Blanket Free Pattern

If you’re looking for a crochet project that is guaranteed to bring smiles, this Minion Blanket Pattern is the perfect choice. Inspired by everyone’s favorite little yellow characters, this blanket combines simple crochet stitches with colorful blocks to create a playful design that children and adults alike will adore.

One of the best things about this project is its flexibility. You can customize the size, arrange the Minion blocks in different layouts, and even mix one-eyed and two-eyed Minions to create unique personalities throughout your blanket. Whether you’re making a gift for a birthday, decorating a child’s bedroom, or simply enjoying a fun crochet project, this blanket is sure to become a favorite.

The construction is surprisingly straightforward. Instead of following a complicated chart row by row, you’ll crochet individual blocks and join them together to create the finished afghan. Once the blocks are assembled, the signature Minion eyes are added as separate crochet pieces, giving the blanket its unmistakable character.

Minion Blanket Pattern

Materials

The original blanket was made using approximately 160 meters of yarn for every two blocks.

Recommended yarn:

  • Yarn Art Jeans (45% acrylic, 55% cotton)
    • 50 g / 160 m
  • Alternatively, Alize Cotton Gold (100 g / 350 m), which many crocheters find more convenient because of the larger skeins.

Colors Needed

  • White
  • Light Blue
  • Dark Blue
  • Yellow
  • Black
  • Gray (for the eye outlines)

Hook

  • 3.5 mm crochet hook

Although the original sample was crocheted entirely using single crochet, the designer recommends using half double crochet (HDC) if making the blanket again. HDC creates a softer fabric, works up faster, and is more comfortable for large blankets.

Gauge is not important for this project since the blanket is assembled from individual blocks.

Blanket Size
The sample blanket measures approximately:
125 cm Γ— 100 cm (about 49 Γ— 39 inches)
It uses a layout of 4 Γ— 5 crochet blocks, although you can easily add more blocks to create a larger blanket.

White and Blue Background Blocks

These blocks create the background of the blanket.

Joining the Blocks

This method helps the finished blanket maintain clean color transitions.

Crochet Minion Eyes

The eyes are made separately and then attached to the blanket.

Some Minions can have one eye, while others have two, making each character unique.

Attach the black center to each eye by sewing or using fabric-safe hot glue. You can place the pupil directly in the center or slightly off-center to give each Minion a playful expression.

Finally, attach the completed eyes to the blanket using sewing or hot glue.

Tips for the Best Results

  • Using HDC instead of SC makes the blanket softer and significantly faster to crochet.
  • Cotton-blend yarns provide excellent stitch definition while remaining comfortable and durable.
  • Experiment with different facial expressions by varying the position of the pupils.
  • Add extra Minion blocks to make larger throws or bed-sized blankets.
  • Weave in all yarn ends before assembling the blanket to achieve a polished finish.
