Reindeer Lodge Quilt

The Reindeer Lodge Quilt is a striking winter-inspired quilt that perfectly blends traditional patchwork with a cozy lodge aesthetic. This design became especially popular after being spotted on a bed in the Hallmark Channel movie Reindeer Lodge, capturing the hearts of quilters who love bold symmetry, strong contrast, and classic star-based layouts.

Reimagined and generously shared by Jackie Theriot of Black Cat Creations, this quilt has been carefully redrafted to make it accessible, accurate, and enjoyable for modern quilters. The result is a beautiful quilt that feels both nostalgic and timeless, ideal for winter décor and holiday quilting projects.

The finished Reindeer Lodge Quilt measures approximately 68” x 80”, making it a perfect size for a throw, twin bed, or a statement quilt for seasonal display. The strong red-and-white color contrast gives the quilt a crisp, snowy look, reminiscent of winter cabins and festive lodge interiors.

The overall layout alternates two main blocks:

Star Blocks – bold and dynamic, creating visual movement
Chain Blocks – providing structure and balance between the stars

These blocks are sewn into rows, alternating star and chain blocks, resulting in a beautifully rhythmic and eye-catching quilt top (see quilt diagram on page 9 of the PDF).

Fabric Requirements

According to the pattern instructions (page 3), you will need:

White / Background fabric: 4½ yards
Red / Block elements fabric: 3½ yards (includes binding)
Backing fabric: 5 yards

This simple two-color scheme is what gives the Reindeer Lodge Quilt its strong visual impact, but it can easily be adapted to other color palettes.

Techniques Used in This Quilt

This quilt is very approachable for confident beginners and intermediate quilters. Some of the techniques you’ll practice include:

Strip piecing for efficient construction
Quick 2-patch and 4-patch units
No-waste flying geese method (clearly explained on page 6)
Nine-patch square-in-a-square units

All seams are sewn with a standard ¼” seam allowance, and the pattern includes clear diagrams for every unit and block.
