Fabric Requirements

To complete this block, you’ll need three main fabric colors:

  • Dark Blue

  • Dark Tomato (Red)

  • White

  • These strong contrasts create a bold visual impact while staying true to the traditional palette used in many state block collections.

    Template Requirements

    To make this block using English Paper Piecing (EPP), you’ll need to download and print the templates in the following quantities:

    • Template A – Print 4 copies

    • Template B – Print 24 copies

    • Template C – Print 4 copies

    • Template D – Print 8 copies

    Cutting Instructions

    Use your printed templates to cut the following from your chosen fabrics:

    • From Dark Blue Fabric:

      • 12 of Template B

    • From Dark Tomato Fabric:

      • 12 of Template B

    • From White Fabric:

      • 4 of Template A

      • 4 of Template C

      • 8 of Template D

    Sewing Instructions

    Corner Units

    1. Make 4 units by sewing a red B to the end of template D.

    2. Make 4 units by sewing a blue B to the end of template D.

    3. Join one red BD unit and one blue BD unit to opposite sides of a white template C piece, following the layout. Make 4 corner units in total.

    Center Units

    1. Join a red B and blue B piece together to form a unit. Make 8.

    2. Sew a red/blue B unit to each side of a white template A piece. Make 4 center units.

    Block Assembly

    1. Sew a corner unit to each side of one center unit to create the top and bottom rows.

    2. Join the two remaining center units to form the middle row.

    3. Sew all rows together to complete the block layout.

    Finished Size: 12 ½″ unfinished (will finish at 12″ square when sewn into a quilt)
