Fabric Requirements for the Queen Size
For the Queen-size version, you will need approximately:
- 3 yards Light Cream Check for the light petals
- 6¼ yards Ivory Floral for the darker cream petals and alternating blocks
- 3¾ yards Brown Check
- 1½ yards Gold fabric for centers and flange
- ¾ yard bias binding
- 7⅝ yards backing fabric
- Batting approximately 87″ × 105″
The neutral palette gives the quilt a soft farmhouse feel, but you can easily change the colors to suit your own style.
Daisy Block
The Daisy Block is the main floral block in the quilt.
Each block features a gold center surrounded by eight cream petal sections. Brown corner units frame the petals and help connect the design to the neighboring blocks.
To make the block, prepare the center square first, then sew the petal sections in mirrored pairs. Add the four corner units and assemble the block in rows.
Take time to press carefully and square every finished block to 9½” unfinished.
For the Queen-size quilt, make:

Alternating Block
The Alternating Block creates the large cream diamond shapes between the daisies.
This block uses a large cream center placed on point, with brown checked connector sections around the corners.
These darker corners are important because they visually link one Daisy Block to the next and create the secondary lattice design across the quilt.
For the Queen-size quilt, make:
49 Alternating Blocks
Quilt Assembly
Once all 99 blocks are complete, arrange them in 11 rows of 9 blocks.
Begin the first row with a Daisy Block and alternate:
Daisy – Alternating – Daisy – Alternating
The second row begins with an Alternating Block.
Continue alternating the starting block in every row.
This layout creates the exact checkerboard pattern that forms the finished Cotton Daisies design.
Sew the blocks together into rows first, then join the rows.
Press alternating rows in opposite directions to help the seams nest neatly.
Borders, Flange, and Binding
A narrow gold flange can be added around the outer edge before the binding. This small detail adds warmth and ties the gold flower centers into the final border.
After the quilt top is complete, layer it with batting and backing.
For quilting, floral motifs work especially well with this design. You can echo the petals, quilt leaves inside the large cream diamonds, or use an all-over meandering design for a simpler finish.
Finish the quilt with coordinating bias binding.
Other Sizes
The same two-block pattern can also be used for smaller or larger quilts.
Lap Quilt: 45″ × 63″
Use a 5 × 7 block layout.
King Quilt: 99″ × 99″
Use an 11 × 11 block layout.
